Good

I realize that it has been quite some time since I posted an entry. I have also had some complaints about my failure to keep up with regular updates. I am working on a piece about Brokeback Mountain, but I cannot quite finish it. Or, maybe I just do not want to post it. It became a bit too personal. I will get back to it, I think.

Today, however, I was riding the T to Emerson and I started thinking about how good things are -- that I do not perhaps reflect enough on the positive. I thought that I should write about this in my blog since I am often complaining about something when I write in my blog (not always, but often). So, here it is.

I was riding the orange line to the green line to get to Emerson where I am teaching this term. Riding the T is quite enjoyable at times and I was feeling pretty good about it. I got a seat and I had my iPod playing the 18 essential Janis Joplin songs. Good stuff. I take the orange line to downtown crossing where I make my way through a very confusing maze to the green line. I take a green train one stop to Boylston. I think I may be able to walk out to the street at Park and avoid the green line jaunt, but I am not entirely sure and, as you will soon understand, I am not so good at T navigation.

The first time I took the T to Emerson, I made my way through the maze to the green line and ascertained that all trains go to Boylston. So, I got on a green train. Unfortunately, it was going the other way. So, I had to get off at the next stop and take a green train back two stops to get to Boylston. I always feel embarassed when I do things like that, but that is odd since no one actually knows that I did it.

Today, I was rolling along on the orange line, bopping my head to Janis and trying not to look too long at anyone (I have discovered that this is part of T etiquette -- no looking at people for more than a second and certainly no long gazes). We arrive at downtown crossing and I happily make my way through the maze, looking at the signs to make sure I am going the right way. I arrive at the green train area and cross the tracks, go down the stairs to come up on the other side so that I will get on a green train that is headed in the right direction. This was my mistake the first time -- I failed to take the stairs under and over to the other side.

I still believed that once I was at those particular tracks that all trains go to Boylston. Well, today I discovered that some trains go through Boyston without stopping. That's the train that I boarded today. So, I watch out the window woefully as we zoom past the green Boylston sign and feel some panic as I wonder if this is some kind of express train all the way to the end of the line. I was so proud that I got such an early start today so that I could hit Starbuck's and have time to prepare for class. Fortunately, the train did stop at the next stop, Arlington. I thought maybe I could go to the street and walk to Emerson, but again, I was not sure. I took the safe route and crossed over the tracks via the stairs to then board another green train that was headed back in the direction from whence I had just come. I was pleased when this particular train did stop at Boylston where I happily disembarked and made my way to the surface.

I am still early and I did get my macchiato. I still feel happy and good -- so, here's my list of good things :

*Milissa
*Lexi and Ashton
*baby D
*the westies
*the barista at Emack and Bolio's in JP who makes a star in the foam out of the espresso in my macchiato because she says I have such a wonderful smile
*teaching at Emerson
*maple oatmeal scones
*adoption
*all of my friends who are always helping me and supporting me
*the generousity of my family
*making art
*brunch at Center Street Cafe
*the beautiful home that I live in

There's a lot more, but that's a good start.
