Wii and Me

You might think that after the great excitement of the Costa Rica Mountain Biking trip that I would have a blog entry or so about it by now. Or, after the exciting experience of the colonoscopy I recently underwent, I might have some commentary about that. But, no, what has actually motivated me to write is the lack of availability of the Nintendo Wii. What is up with this nonsense?? I call around every now and then to check to see if various retail stores have any and, until yesterday, the answer was "no". Come on, Christmas is over. Why do these game system manufacturers insist on holding back inventory. Does this hysteria really make a better difference in their bottom line than if they just put the product on the shelves so that regular people could purchase it?

I called Best Buy yesterday and they said they had some units, but would not be releasing them until today. So, I figured I would get there when they open so that I could procure a system. Well, when I got there, a line had already formed and "tickets" had been given out to the first 20 people. They had 20 units. I'm sure that my 40 plus status keeps me from understanding the nuanced structure of purchasing game systems, but come on. I am not going to get up and stand outside in the freezing cold in order to be given a "ticket" so that I can spend my money on a game system. A ticket to buy. Seriously. What is that? I am bitter than I do not have the Wii in my hands today, granted. I waited forever to find an Xbox 360 on the shelf to purchase. The worst part was the greasy-haired numskull who got his Wii and then proceeded to strut out of the store. So, waiting in line to get a ticket to buy a game system is now tres cool. Sheesh.
